Community-Oriented Policing Taskforce

Vision Statement:

A Phi Iota Environment of Community  Trust and Police legitimacy

Mission Statement:

In support of the 12th District’s Mission of maintaining a vital and symbiotic relationship with law enforcement, the brothers of Phi Iota Chapter shall be the bridge into its marginalized communities for the safety and well-being of its police and citizens. We shall achieve this by the implementation of district-wide priorities, serving on police oversight and use of force boards and policy-making commissions, hosting virtual town hall meetings, and providing procedural justice education and training.  This will be accomplished through peaceful dialogue leading to voice, respect, trustworthiness, and transparency towards Community Trust and Police Legitimacy.

Greetings Brothers of the Massive and Progressive 12th District,

I hope and pray that this message finds you and your family safe and in the best of health and spirits. I am excited to announce the relaunch of the 12th District Community-Oriented Policing Taskforce. Originally launched as the Community Partnership Special Committee under Brother DR Martinez’s administration, we’ve adjusted the focus (see below). We have charged Brother Dr. Ben Harrison to serve as chairman and coupled him with Brother DR Martinez as the Special Advisor to the Taskforce.

There isn’t a more timely initiative given the state of policing and the relationships between law enforcement and the communities we serve. I look forward to the great work that Brother Chairman and his team will do to help us build these critical relationships with law enforcement professionals.

Some say building these relationships is impossible, but as we all know, the difficult we do immediately, the impossible might take a little longer. Please click on the following link and take a moment to read this story about the interaction Brother Joseph “Philly Joe” Manning’s family had over this past weekend. White CHP Officer takes home Black family stranded.

Please see the note from Brother Harrison in purple:

Because of the uncertain times in which we find ourselves, one thing remains almost certain. That is the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., its Massive and Progressive 12thDistrict, and its Cardinal Principles of Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift. So we are proud to announce the newly established Community-Oriented Policing Taskforce with the Vision Statement of “A District of Community Trust and Police Legitimacy. “An excerpt from the Mission Statement makes the purpose clear, “to maintain a vital and symbiotic relationship between law enforcement agencies and the Men of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. 12th District as a bridge into community trust and police legitimacy.”

Brother Dr. Ben Harrison, Ph.D.
Chairman
